The Scots: The North British Society is dedicated to presenting and to promoting the culture and traditions of the Scottish heritage through special events, sponsored activities, and charitable works, including: THE HALIFAX HIGHLAND GAMES (JULY): Featuring Piping and Drumming Competitions, Massed Bands, Highland and Scottish Country Dancing, Scottish Heavyweight Competitions and Clan Society displays and activities. SPONSORSHIPS:
SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT: Three academic scholarships administered by Dalhousie University, and youth scholarships given every summer to the Halifax School of Piping and Drumming. CONTINUING EDUCATION: Support for Celtic studies and Gaelic-language studies. The Society has given, to the Public Archives of Nova Scotia, microfiche copies of four thousand volumes of manuscript material relating to over nine hundred parishes of the Church of Scotland, a fundamentalist aid to genealogical research.
